The last few decades have seen the development and then the meteoric rise of digital technology, so much so that today's world can no longer be imagined or lived without it. Conceived as a tool for progress, digital technology has rapidly been hijacked for malicious purposes to serve the interests of individuals, groups or states, potentially jeopardising the security of individuals and businesses and posing a threat to the democratic model and its values. Digital sovereignty, supported by cybersecurity, is therefore at the heart of national concerns.
